Will I be charged sales tax?

We only charge sales tax to items delivered to a Texas address. For tax breakdown by state regions you may visit the TX tax site (https://www.tax.virginia.gov/retail-sales-and-use-tax)

Why does the price change when I add it to my cart?

It’s possible that not all product options were selected before the item was added to the cart. If all options are selected, the price should always be accurate.

Where do you ship from?

We ship mostly orders from Texas. Some items may ship directly from the manufacturer. Other items (such as flies) may ship directly from our warehouses overseas.

When will my order be shipped?

During the work week, orders placed before 5:00 PM Eastern time typically ship the next business day. We don’t ship on holidays, and usually not on the weekends. If there is an urgent request or special situation, please call us in advance to we can give your items the extra attention they need.

When will my order arrive?

Shipments to the Continental US (aka Lower 48) going via our standard free shipping method will typically be delivered within 3-8 business days, weekends NOT included. International shipments typically take longer, depending on the destination. However, expedited shipping is available globally for an additional charge.

I need my item by a certain day. If I choose free shipping, will it be delivered in time?

Naturally, it depends on how far in advance your order was placed. As stated above, typical delivery times for our standard free shipping option fall between 3-8 business days, though delays beyond our control do happen (particularly after COVID-19 got started, it seems). If you absolutely positively need the item for an upcoming fishing trip within 3-8 days, please choose an expedited guaranteed service.

How can I calculate shipping costs?

All orders over US$100 going to the Continental US (except HI and AK) will ship standard for free. For expedited shipping cost estimates, please click the green “Estimate Shipping & Tax” button from your Shopping Cart screen, then add your country, state, and zip or postal code to see a shipping estimate.

Will you combine shipping if I purchase multiple items?

Definitely. At least, we’ll try. It’s in our interest, your interest, and it’s better for the environment as well. However, you might still get multiple shipments if the products simply won’t fit into the same box or are being sourced from different locations.

Do you ship internationally?

Absolutely. Check the USPS International rates to see all international shipping rates. All International orders over $1000 will ship for Free.

How do I return a new item?

You can return any new item (unused & unopened) if it still has its tags and the original packaging. Returns must be made within 15 days of the purchase date.

How do I exchange a Pre-Owned item?

Pre-Owned merchandise does NOT qualify for returns (for various reason), but most Pre-Owned items can be exchanged pending a evaluation of condition upon receipt and discretion of Fintek (and some exclusions apply). Please read our Refund Policy page for more information. If you contact us, we’ll email you the return instructions and your return authorization number, which must be included in the returning package. Please note we do NOT pay for return shipping.

Are there any restocking or cancellation fees for returning an item?

As long as the item is new (unused and unopened), there’s no restocking fee for a return, though please note that we do not pay for return shipping. Once the return item is received, providing the item is still in new condition, a full refund will be issued back to your original payment method.

What kind of gear can I trade in?

Currently we only accept fly rods, fly reels, and fly fishing accessories: packs, vests, fly tying tools, pliers, etc. We do not accept conventional fishing gear, clothing items, or anything associated with wading (waders, boots, belts, staffs, gravel guards, booties, etc.) due to concerns about transmission of invasive species.

What kind of fly rods and reels can I trade in?

We focus mostly on modern branded fly gear, and a few exceptionally high-quality vintage items. Custom rods do not qualify for the TRADE program.

How will you evaluate my fly gear?

Our valuations are based on actual sales prices on a variety of platforms during the last 120 days, and our experience in prior sales of similar items.

How do you issue payment for my gear?

We issue credit in the form of a Fintek Coupon that can be used exclusively on our site. The value of the gear you’ve traded-in will be applied in full towards any new or pre-owned gear currently in our inventory.

What if I don’t agree with your valuation estimate?

You can submit what you need to absolutely get out of your gear, and maybe an explanation of why or what makes it special, (since there is so much gear out there we could sometimes miss or overlook special valued items etc…)

Can I change my mind?

Yes and No. Per the previous answer, if you don’t like our valuation appraisal of your gear, let us know; in the worst-case scenario, we can send it back. However, once we issue your Fintek Coupon, we cannot send back trade items. All trade-in activity becomes final at the point when a Fintek Coupon is issued.

Where do you get your gear from?

New Gear
All of our New Gear comes directly from the Manufacturer that we are authorized Dealers for. For all other brands, a very small percentage of our New Gear comes from estate liquidations, retailers, distributors and manufacturers.
New Old Stock
We occasionally purchase NEW old stock inventory, from Retailers, Distributors, shop closeouts, and sometimes when manufacturers are facing overstock situations or cleaning out discontinued or slow selling models and very rare occasionally from private parties.
Pre-Owned Gear
From you! Virtually all our pre-owned gear comes from trades made with private parties that are looking to upgrade their gear or looking for something different.

Do you have any pro deal or guide program affiliations?

No, we are not affiliated with any Pro Programs and we have strong feelings about this topic! We absolutely do NOT sell or encourage abuse of these privileges if you have them. We firmly believe that exploitation of manufacturers’ discount programs for personal profit is damaging to the broader fly fishing supply chain and distribution network. We don’t encourage, condone, or participate in such side deals. If you’re unfamiliar with this topic, give a listen to April Vokey’s interview with Kirk Deeter: Anchored Podcast Ep. 153: Kirk Deeteron The Fly Fishing Industry

If the gear is Pre-Owned, how do I know that it’ll arrive in functional condition?

Every piece of gear received by Finkek is visually inspected for undisclosed damage and carefully disinfected. All Pre-Owned rods and reels are wiped down with detergent and/or alcohol solutions (as appropriate) to ensure that no pathogens have hitched a ride. The cork on every rod handle is cleaned using our proprietary process; neither toxic chemicals nor abrasives are used. Rod socks are washed.

NOTE: due to concerns related to the transmission of invasive species, we never accept Pre-Owned wading gear, including wading boots, waders, belts, wading staffs, booties, gravel guards, etc. We do occasionally sell new and unused wading items, but only if they’ve never seen water.

Will my rod have a valid manufacturer’s warranty?

Maybe. This is often a controversial subject, so let’s break it down a bit more below.

If my rod gets broken, can it be professionally repaired?

Yes, almost certainly. Virtually all of the major manufacturers provide a lifetime repair program, so it’s generally possible to get any modern rod fixed. Some older rod models cannot be repaired, but most rod makers will offer a replacement from their current lines, or at least a discount.

Will the repair be covered by warranty?

No, probably not. A rod repair program isn’t the same thing as a warranty, much less a lifetime guarantee. If ever such a thing existed, it’s rare now - possibly extinct. Most of the manufacturers charge a fee to repair any rod, (even if it really is covered by warranty), which usually only officially covers the original owner, (only if the rod is registered(, possibly for a limited period of time, and generally only for manufacturing defects. Although the majority of the rods we sell have never been registered with the manufacturer, we aren’t sure it matters much. Most of the warranties technically don’t cover most rod breakage scenarios, so in most cases you’d likely be paying the repair fees even if you did have a valid warranty.

How much will it cost to fix my rod, and how long will it take?

It varies, and wildly. Fintek doesn’t do rod repair, so you’d be working directly with the manufacturer of your rod. Despite the horror stories you’ll eventually hear about terrible service from this company or that one, we’ve broken plenty of rods over the years and have generally had good luck with the repair programs. We think it helps to call the rod maker’s customer service folks and admit honestly that we slammed the rod in a car door or stuck it into a ceiling fan, rather than attempting to claim that a manufacturing defect caused the rod to spontaneously shatter at the precise moment when your buddy shut the tailgate…..

Will my card come with a warranty registration card?

Maybe, maybe not - but it doesn’t really matter. While a few of the manufacturers still send out the old fashioned warranty registration cards with their rods, most registration activity has now moved online. If we’ve got a card for your rod, we’ll send it along. These days all manufactures have an registration form that you can fill out online, thus saving you the stamps.

Please contact us! We’ll get it sorted out.

What is the difference between New, Pre-Owned and New Old Stock?

Let’s break these terms out and make them easy to understand:

■The terms “discontinued” and “new old stock”as used here refer to any gear (rod or reel) that is no longer in contemporary production, regardless of when it was discontinued. This therefore includes items which are still in ‘new’ or ‘unused’ (see next bullet) condition despite having been discontinued numerous years ago.

■The terms “new” and “unused” as used here refer to the condition of an item and indicate that it matches what would be expected were the item found in a retail store or shipped from the manufacturer or a distributor.

■The Terms “used”or "pre-owned" indicate that the gear has been used by a prior owner and thus may have minor wear and tear associated with having been fished in the past. We work hard to identify indications of wear, and both describe the condition accurately and, where possible, reveal the real condition in our photographs.

Do you have a standardized rating system for your gear? How will I know that it looks just as in pictures?

We are very selective when taking trade-ins, and we generally pass on gear that we would not fish ourselves - with the notable (but very rare) exception of collectible vintage gear. We do a thorough inspection to ensure that all of our acquisitions (whether new old stock or pre-owned) are fully functional, and we’re very careful to take “real” pictures that reveal any imperfections. In fact, we intentionally photograph and focus on any blemishes rather than attempting to obscure or hide them. The fish don’t care if your gear has a few dings, but unhappy customers are bad for long-term business.

That said, we have refrained from using some kind of system to rate our pre-owned gear, mostly because we’ve learned over time that everyone’s rating system is different. We might consider something to be “fair” that someone else would rate as “good” or even “excellent”. Instead of slapping an arbitrary label on our gear, we attempt to carefully document and disclose any deviations from new condition and provide multiple pictures, so you know exactly what you’re getting.

If you have questions about any gear (whether new old Stock or Pre-Owned) listed by Fintek, feel free to contact us and we would be happy to chat about it in detail. We’ll take and send additional photos, if that’s what you need. Our goal here is to enable you to buy with confidence and be thrilled with your purchase, not to unload someone’s used gear on an unsuspecting customer who will never come back. If you are not satisfied after you’ve made a purchase, let us know. We will do our best to make it right!

Can you describe your gear inspection process? Any guarantees?

All our gear goes through a two-fold inspection process:

First Inspection: Immediately after receipt of new inventory, we do a thorough inspection of each piece to ensure that every item is fully functional, and we’re very careful to take “real” pictures that reveal any imperfections.

Second Inspection: Gear is inspected again after it is sold and prior to packing. Although it’s extremely unlikely that the condition of an item would’ve changed since the photos were taken, our pre-shipping inspection confirms that nothing was missed in the first inspection or happened since the time the item was listed. If we do find an issue, we’ll communicate that to you prior to shipping and decide on an appropriate course of action..

Additional Inspections: If you need us to look at something specifically, please ask! We encourage our customers to ask questions so that you can become fully confident in us and the product you’re buying before you make your purchase.

I am looking for something specific, but I do not see it on your store. Can I request for a specific rod or reel?

Yes, you absolutely can. Just send us an email with the specific rod or reel that you are looking for and we will notify you as soon as we get one in. That guarantees that you get first dibs, before it is listed at Fintek. To send in a Gear Request, please visit our Contact Us page. Fill out your info and under the ‘My Question is about’ option, select “Gear Request” from the drop down. This will submit your inquiry to us, and we will start sourcing for you. In many cases we will try out best to find that one rod or reel that you are looking for but cannot make any guarantees.

What if my question is not answered here?

Please visit our Contact Us page, and use the form to send us an Email.
